Soča river valley – Nature and Adventure Day Tour

A day trip for those who enjoy pristine and beautiful nature! Visit one of the most beautiful river valleys in the world.
Justly called the Emerald Beauty, the Soča river is famous for its green-blue colour, for its purity and clarity, and for the adrenaline water activities: kayaking, white water rafting, canyoning, hydrospeed, zipline, paragliding, skiing ...

Soča river valley

The Soča river valley is an enchantingly scenic part of Slovenia and even though it is located on the other side of the Julian Alps it can be easily reached in a day trip from Ljubljana.

The Soča river has one of the most amazing colours you will ever see and you can follow its lively rapids from the source to the spectacular carved gorges, all the way down to where it slows down and becomes deeper and more secretive. The river is not the only spectacular sight in the valley since you are accompanied by eminent mountain peaks and wondrous waterfalls for most of the way. The whole area is also pervaded by memories of the battles that were fought in this valley during WWI, which can be traced in the war cemeteries and memorials.

Kranjska gora alpine resort

Kranjska gora, a small ski resort town, is famous as the traditional setting of slalom and giant slalom skiing World Cup competitions. Just outside Kranjska gora, lying at the foothills of the mighty Julian Alps is the picturesque Jasna lake.

Vršič mountain pass

Vršič is the highest mountain pass in Slovenia at 1611 m of elevation. The monumental road that leads up to this pass was built during World War I. On the way up you pass the Russian Chapel, a wooden church hidden in the woods which commemorates the Russian prisoners of war who perished whilst building this road. Vršič is located at the heart of the Julian Alps and its natural beauties are breathtaking and unique, such as Prisank’s eye, a natural ‘window’, and the rock face of the ‘Ajdovska’ girl, carved by nature in a cliff of one of the mountains.

Bovec and Soča valley adrenaline activities

The stunning mountain scenery and world-class hiking, cycling, fly-fishing and adrenaline adventures - rafting, kayak and canyoning must be part of any tour to Slovenia. As we reach the Soča river valley, the road levels out and we follow the river to Bovec, the adrenaline sports capital of Slovenia and the right place for an option of your adrenaline activities.

The Soča valley is perfect for cycling, with beautiful scenery and excellent cycling roads.

The Soča river is one of Europe’s top white-water destinations. The Soča rapids grades range from I to VI. The river is the most powerful during mountain snow melts in April and May. Main water sports activities on the Soča river include kayaking, white water rafting and hydrospeed/riverboarding; and secluded canyons around Soča are perfect for canyoning.

Experienced guides, proper safety equipment, amazing natural surroundings and glorious water ensure an unforgettable experience.

Kobarid

You might recognize Kobarid, or Caporetto, if you are a keen reader and familiar with Hemingway's Farewell to Arms where he describes the battles in the Soča valley during the WWI. Kobarid boasts an awarded WWI museum and a quaint town centre. Towering above it is a monumental Kobarid ossuary as a memorial to the Italian soldiers that fell on the Soča valley front.

A short walk away is another remarkable sight, the Kozjak waterfall, which is considered to be one of the most striking waterfalls in Slovenia. The water carved a hall that surrounds the waterfall, giving you a feeling of being underground, and the 15 meter beauty falls into a turquoise pool that continues its way out in a little stream.
